Hi,
I am trying to run Emacs version 21.2.1 on HP-UX Itanium plattform. Yes, I know it is an unsupported OS but what happens is so astonishing that I decided to drop you a note anyway. When I issue command:
$ emacs filename
(for example $ emacs foo.txt)
then the only buffers Emacs gives me are messages and scratch. There is no buffer containing foo.txt. Please note that foo.txt is an existing file.
Is this a bug? If not, what is the explanation to this behaviour and how do I get around it?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Best regards
Felix

This bug report will be sent to the Free Software Foundation,
not to your local site managers!
Please write in English, because the Emacs maintainers do not have
translators to read other languages for them.
Your bug report will be posted to the bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org mailing list,
and to the gnu.emacs.bug news group.

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:
While running Emacs in console terminal mode (accessible through
C-M-F[1-12]) and playing nethack via nethack-el,
Emacs will randomly coredump, saying "Fatal error(6).Aborted"; there
don't seem to be any specific causes, but I first noticed it while
pressing "i" to examine inventory. This occurs regardless of whether
it runs with customizations (ie Emacs -q will still crash). The system
is a minimalistic Debian testing. The Emacs and nethack-el packages
are
likewise from testing. The crashing does not occur when I run it under
X and ratpoison. I've asked the nethack-el devs and they referred me
to filing a bug report with Emacs.
