I just installed emacs 23 from a ubuntu package provided here:

http://peadrop.com/blog/2007/01/06/pretty-emacs/

But it wont load w3m.

What must I do? It says that "this version of w3m does not work with
emacs 23 please try development version".

Are you referring to w3m or emacs-w3m?  Either way, if you need the
development version you can get it from the respective homepages.

It now appears to me that I might have not been clear.  When I said
development I meant cvs as opposed to the source package, normally
called devel.
