Maybe people overlooked this argument so far, but this is a strong one. In the same stream of thoughts, if Transient Mark Mode is enabled by default then beginners (or those who never customize their Emacs) will always live in this world: no highlighted region = no active mark No sure they will gain something from that. And C-SPC C-SPC is really not *that* far, is it? -- Bastien
