You can say "python.el".  But really I think it's only worth worrying about
it if you intend to make the two packages use different name spaces, so that
both can be loaded at the same time in a single Emacs session (like
perl-mode and cperl-mode).

So you could rename it to npython-mode where `n' stands for New ;-)
Or boa-mode (since viper-mode is already taken ;-)

But maybe it's not worth the trouble.
