commit a38da0d4e532c7a8ce8f20ee5e95a50fce162469

introduced a build error in cc-mode.texi. Tested with texinfo 6.5 and

Does it help to put the @footnote on a separate line below the @item
line?  Like this:

@itemize @asis
@item Style
@item File Style
@footnote{In earlier versions of @ccmode{}, a File Style setting took precedence over any other setting apart from a File Local Variable setting.}

Any chance of saying what the error is, or identifying the list to which
Stefan Husman posted, or anything else to help me track this down?

In my emacs-26 branch, when I delete ccmode.info, I can rebuild it
without problems (using texinfo 6.6).

It's OK.  I've found it on debbugs.gnu.org.

Then I suggest to report this to bug-texinfo@gnu.org, because I don't
see a bug there. It could be a bug in Texinfo or in TexLive's
texinfo.tex. FWIW, the Info manual is produced from this source with
not even a warning, including with the latest Texinfo 6.6.

If the Texinfo developers point out a problem with the source, we will
then fix it.

Thanks.

I don't see it documented anywhere that asis can be used with itemize
(as opposed to table).

See also http://lists.gnu.org/r/bug-texinfo/2009-03/msg00016.html

  It was a bug in texinfo.tex that @asis was ever accepted as the argument
  to @itemize; unfortunately this was not realized from the beginning.

(although that was 10 years ago)

Oh, you are right.

Alan, what did you want to achieve by using @asis in that context?
Would just removing it be good enough?

:-). It's not documented anywhere that @asis _can't_ be used in
@itemize. And I think it natural to assume that it can be, out of
grounds of consistency. Why can't it be used? The manual suggests
using @w{}, but fails to say "don't use @asis".

I want a straight list of short items WITHOUT any visible bullet point,
on consecutive lines.

I will fix this with @w{}.

Yes. There was an @itemize @asis, which works in makeinfo, but needs to
be @itemize @w{} to work in texi2dvi.

I've committed the obvious fix. Sorry it took me such a long time, I
had problems (now fixed) with my Texinfo setup.

From the top level emacs directory, I can now successfully do make dvi.
So I'm closing this bug.

Hello,

the fix in the emacs-26 branch (commit
24fc1337c169aeb1095dcc58bf8d4bbe48abefc0) also works when committed to
master.

Thanks and best regards

Stefan Husmann
