I might be too pedantic (in this case just ignore this message), but the
space character at the beginning or end of a file name is also not
possible, I believe.

It is possible, just not recommended; see the URL I cited (the last
bullet in the list of limitations there).

(In Tramp I am not able to handle this case, but this is another story)
