The apostrophes are missing around the value, which makes Tramp confused. Could you pls recheck on the remote machine, what happens if you call in the shell /bin/sh # echo \"`uname -sr`\" Which shell is activated when you invoke /bin/sh? Are there other shells which could be used on that machine? Could the command be modified in order to get the expected output? Best regards, Michael.
