shell <tab> Completions

shell <tab> Completions

Hi

M-x shell cd <tab> shows the Completions buffer which takes one of the
windows where there might be some other buffer open. is there a way to
show the completions the way shell ls <tab> shows it, right above the
shell prompt? so that I don't have to go to the Completions and kill
it or whatever in-order to show what was in that window before I hit
<tab>

Escape it and send it directly to the shell and not to GNU Emacs!

how do you do that?, not sure if I understand what you'r saying.

I don't know. I never use it. I am sure there is a way described in  
the docs.

One possibility is using M-x term (with bash).  This'll give you the
customary tab completion behaviour (but has other drawbacks ;-).
