OK I set it to oh, 111 and now I'm left looking only at the
compilation buffer -- just what I want. Thanks.
But wait. What if I want to be left looking at the top of the
compilation buffer, instead of following its tail?
putting (goto-char (point-min)) in compilation-mode-hook didn't help.
