I guess the `...' means a whole herd was elided

Here it's 1287

But when the item was introduced into the thread it was presented as a way
to see `all' fonts.

Did you mean to be used some other way than eval?

Using completion as Bernardo suggests:
> M-x set-default-font RET TAB TAB

Does appear to list them all... and with nice newlines.
