It looks like the patch was applied (with some changes).  Skimming the
rest of the thread, other related issues were discussed, but if I'm
reading it correctly, it seems like the described scenarios are now
possible with the patch installed.

So there doesn't seem to be anything further to be done in this bug
report, and I'm closing it.  If there are any further issues in this
area, perhaps opening a new bug report would be the way to go.
