Probably, If someone can come up with better names.  The Emacs
maintainers are quite responsive to suggestions of improvements.

No.  Customize doesn't yet support binding keys.  Putting the following
in your ~/.emacs.el should get the old behavior back.

(global-set-key (kbd "<home>") 'beginning-of-buffer)
(global-set-key (kbd "<end>") 'end-of-buffer)
