I'm also observing the behavior reported @

after recently updating the emacs-snapshot* packages from emacs.naquadah.org. I'm running
$ emacs-snapshot -q -nw --version
GNU Emacs 24.1.50.1
$ lsb_release -ds
Linux Mint Debian Edition
$ uname -rv
3.2.0-2-amd64 #1 SMP Sun Mar 4 22:48:17 UTC 2012
