I've got a followup question. Wouldn't it be cleaner to apply
git clone --reference emacs git://git.savannah.gnu.org/emacs.git emacs-25
git clone -b emacs-24 --reference emacs git://git.savannah.gnu.org/emacs.git emacs-24
