In short, it doesn't work as expected with cl-letf and fixing that would not be worth the effort, if it's possible at all. I can live with that, but have you considered adding a plain old set-buffer-local-value function? buffer-local-value isn't any more *necessary* than that; they both just relieve us from the need to use with-current-buffer explicitly.
