`dired-use-ls-dired' is a boolean, which causes dired to append the
"--dired" option itself.
To tell dired what ls program to use, you have to use a separate
variable, `insert-directory-program'.
So I guess the following should work:
(setq dired-use-ls-dired t)
(setq insert-directory-program "/sw/bin/gls")
