I'm using the Ubuntu package provided to the community by
Alexandre Vassolotti:

    GNU Emacs 23.0.60.1 (i486-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.12.0)
    of 2007-12-30 on iridium

Thank you very much for such a quick reaction!!

BTW, hitting `i' does open an entry of the manual where our
search term was found, but it does not open it on the line where
the match is found, neither does it highlight it.

Are such things possible, which would render the whole even much
more usable?

Thanks,
  Seb
