I guess the miscommunication comes from the fact that maintainers tend to think against patches and more concrete proposals. Right now, I cannot think of something better than the scratch buffer, but maybe there *is* something. Jambunathan made some concrete proposals in a recent message to Emacs bug tracking system -- let's see how it evolve and contribute from there? -- Bastien
