They're both pretty unimportant, actually.  What's more important is
that it give similar results to web browsers and office suites, but
even that is not all that big a deal.

As for free software, supporting free software is indeed important,
but it seems to me that adopting a widespread standard that gives
users an experience consistent with other modern apps doesn't conflict
with that.
