Normally
Compile command: make <TAB>
is very smart, knowing all the completions from the Makefile.

Alas
Compile command: nurfowitz=1 make <TAB>
confuses it so it no longer can do that.

Doesn't "make nurfowitz=1" have the same effect (without breaking completion)?

OK I asked on
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-make/2017-11/msg00033.html
to clarify that... but even if true, it should still expand it...

Also one notes
Compile command: ca<TAB> can find cat, but
Compile command: a=b ca<TAB> cannot...
also even if one does
Compile command: cat <TAB> one does not see anything, whereas with bash
(or bash-completions) one would see filenames...
