Didn't know about this. Now imagine the *minimap* window on the left of
the window to which is associates (say blah.el) but with the modeline of
blah.el extending under both, and scrollbars also to the left of
*minimap*. Editing commands in blah.el would still behave as now.
That minimap.el exists and works shows that elisp is fast enough for the
task of maintaining the contents.
Likewise, compare for example the documentation display capability of light-table....

Essentially, it's the same thing, but the lack of borders or decorations
means that the interface for light table is much more pleasing.
