Another tip: You can easily get rid of backup files in the current directory,
using Dired's `~' command. IOW, if you don't want to use a separate directory,
any temporary clutter can be removed using `~'.
FWIW, that's what I do: I let Emacs create and keep backup files while I
working, and when I'm done with a task and want to clean things up, I hit `~'.

I created 3 directories under .emacs.d/, they are ebackup, eautosave,
etemp, and created ~/.emacs with the following conent:
---------------------------------------------------------------
;; Backup
(defvar backup-dir (expand-file-name "~/.emacs.d/ebackup/"))
(defvar autosave-dir (expand-file-name "~/.emacs.d/eautosave/"))
(setq backup-directory-alist (list (cons ".*" backup-dir)))
(setq auto-save-list-file-prefix autosave-dir)
(setq auto-save-file-name-transforms `((".*" ,autosave-dir t)))
---------------------------------------------------------------
after that all the files ending with ~ go to the subfolders of
.emacs.d/, that's good, but I found that when I'm editing a file, a
.#filename will appear in my working folder, I hope I can also move
that file into .emacs.d/etemp/, by what configuration could I reach
that? thanks
