Well, as was stated in the snipped part of the quoted message, and as has been stated in other messages in the thread: it isn't true. Org is a text based markup that can be edited in any text editor, with approximately the same readability as markdown. It's just that emacs has (IMO) the best facilities for navigating and editing the format.
