Indeed, in a programming language this is clear, more
well-defined, reusable, functional, more modular, etc - maybe
nicely "refactored" that way (unlikely) or even written that
way to begin with (well it _is_ easier and more
pleasant anyway!)

  fun-1(...)
  fun-2(...)
  (...)
  fun-n(...)

However,

  $ this | is | wasting | forks

and contains ugly pipes. Yukiduk!

Instead one should do it this way:

  $ this -iwf
