With that new default, when Gnus tries to open my "~/.authinfo.gpg", I'm prompted for its password in a separate popup (X) window. With epg-gpg-program -> "gpg", Emacs itself prompted for the password. That's the behavior I prefer. Is there any way to get the old behavior back? Thanks, Michael.
