Docker Inc. provides some maintenance and review for such images, so they are in many ways an investment for the company. I don't know more, I've never made or maintained an official image. But GCC is up there, as I said, so there's a precedent. I think FSF/GNU software can be part of that ecosystem, but if not then we should look at our own FSF/GNU Docker Hub repository. Either way, users will benefit. Right now there's nothing official. Ted
