* find-file wildcards on command line don't get dired

I hoped given a wildcard, dired would be inovked:
$ emacsclient  ./[ABC]\*  
$ emacs -nw  ./[ABC]\*  
$ emacs -nw [ABC]\*  
But no go. So then to get what I want from say, the final example
above, the saga is: C-x C-v <return> C-x d <escape> p <return>
which also points out that C-x C-v isn't hip to wildcards.
