The first release candidate for the 24.5 release of Emacs (the
extensible text editor) is available at
ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/emacs/pretest/emacs-24.5-rc1.tar.xz
Please give it as much testing as you can.
As always, if you encounter problems building or using Emacs,
send a report to bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org with full details
(if possible, use M-x report-emacs-bug).
Thanks for helping to test Emacs.

I hate it to be the grinch. But bug#20233 means, that Tramp is broken
for the "scp" method, the default one. I could reproduce this locally.
Backporting a patch from the master branch seems to cure the problem
(waiting for acknowledgement of the OP).
Does this qualify to make a second RC?

It would to me.
You can anyway backport the patch to emacs-24, and I'll pull the changes
if there's another RC, I won't pull if not.

This has been changed to dd3f56789371c904c53f057b288cdcfc9cc56b25. There's
something related I had to fix in tramp-tests.el. Thanks, hydra!

There will be a second RC (hopefully today), and I will do the release
on Monday if everything goes according to plan.
Cheers,
Nico

A bit late, but I expect few changes between rc1 and rc2: patches to
update the OpenBSD Emacs port were tested by a few folks.
OpenBSD-current, architectures amd64, sparc64 and mips64; configured
with --without-x and --with-x-toolkit=gtk3. No defect report so far.

rc1 and rc2 are in Gentoo unstable since 7 and 3 days, respectively.
So far, no bug reports received here.

Same here, rc1 worked fine, I compiled rc2 last night,
it works fine too. Both compiled from source in Debian Jessie.
