* recenter horizontally?

Is there a way to recenter a line horizontally to point much like the
recenter function does vertically?  I can use C-x < and C-x > but I
would like something like C-l for horizontal centering.

center-line or center-region ?

Those would center the content of the document.  I want to center the
portion of the buffer that is displayed, but leave the document
un-changed.
