babel sh session eats '>' after first src block

This may be expected behavior, but it was unexpected to me:
'>' in sh :session output eaten after first src block.

Clues, RFTMs (I tried), workarounds?

The session buffer is not correctly parsed and the output for the
variable initialization and the actual body commands gets mixed up.
Additionally, sessioin evaluation ignores the selected shell language
and always uses the standard shell for the user.
