No, this is not the expected conversion. AUTHOR, like TITLE, expects Org
syntax, not LaTeX.
You could write, e.g.,
:EXPORT_AUTHOR: Gabriel S. X. Smith@@latex:\\@@ CMST220@@latex:\\@@ Professor Voso
