Perhaps.  But then you would be declaring that it's not url.el's
business to try and fix these Windows filename issues.

No, for this URL

    (url-host (url-generic-parse-url "file://C:/some/file"))
    ;;=> c

and that's correct.

According to Wikipedia the original URL (with three slashes) is correct.
