One example of that unknown magic: I have "gpg2" (2.x) in
epg-gpg-program variable but Emacs (Gnus) still uses "gpg" (1.4) to sign
my messages. The signature part reads like this:

    -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE-----
    Version: GnuPG v1

    [...]
    -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
