The people who use the best technology are the best
and have the best views and attitudes.

Instead of trying to bring the attitudes etc. to the
masses, we should bring the technology to them - just
like the religious people in the [whatever] centuries
(but differently perhaps). And after we ask about the
politics and tell them and most likely they'll just
"OK, never thought of that really deep but sure makes
sense..." And then we know if it works.

Yeah? :)

(Is this a new idea?)

Even in this restricted setting this sentence seems iffy, at best.

But hey. OK for thinking out loud; no progress if no trials are
made :-)

As to the rest -- interpreted I seem to read out of it: "lead
by example and they will come". But the signal is so weak that
I could be making it up, seeing foxes and spotted owls in some
cloud pattern.

Sorry for my broken sensors.

Your sensors are functioning because that's what
I mean.

Speaking of *teachers*, both my parents were teachers
and I know many teachers and future teachers.

We could start a foundation or a subsection of one
that already exists, like "GNU/Emacs/Linux [whatever]
to the Schools" with some vary basic material to it
(like a big poster and a pile of flyers) and then
insist we get to speak to the kids 45 minutes (just
like the firefighters etc. did with us). Probably the
teachers wouldn't be opposed to this, but for it to
materialize a "phantom organization" which doesn't
really do anything is always good to have behind your
back and refer to.

Maybe it can even get some funds from the EU or
something. (?)

Understood.

And... talking of schools -- there are people working on that.

No. The best people are called "saints". The real saints, however,
have never considered themselves as "the best".

People who are wise don't get hang up on the mere form
(which is always imperfect in one sense or the other)
- instead they are able do identify the essence and
purpose of a message which is also what they
themselves choose to relate to...
