If you get raw bytes in your Gnus messages, that usually means that
you're decoding the message incorrectly. Removing the characters in the
128-255 rarely, in my experience, leads to a material improvement in the
message itself.
If this is a problem you encounter often, then writing a command that
removes these characters should be easy enough.
