I use "M-x toggle-input-method" for activating the TeX input method.
Its symbol "\" indeed appears on the mode line, however, the input
method still is switched off.

I can not reproduce this bug. Here is what I did:
1. emacs -Q
2. M-x toggle-input-method RET TeX RET
3. \ a l p h a
=> symbol "alpha" is inserted in the buffer
GNU Emacs 23.1.92.5 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.16.1)
of 2010-02-24 on furry
Please provide an exact recipe.

Again, I cannot reproduce it here. Please try it with "emacs -Q" and if
that works, try to figure out which part of your .emacs (or of
system-wide Emacs customizations) trigger the problem.
Stefan

Sorry, I *think* I forgot to restart "emacs -Q" after the latest
"make install". This way, two Emacs version were present in memory
at the same time. I cannot reproduce it either any more. Sorry
again.
Tschö,
Torsten.
