[SOLVED sort of] (was: (K)ubuntu and US intl keyboard, does not work anymore)

I just found out about

for me the solution

(require 'iso-transl)
worked while

launch emacs with "XMODIFIERS='' emacs"

Did not but maybe I misunderstood that advice.
