Yes, maybe I switched buffer in the excitement ...

So the man page browser gets the affected directory, but still
shows man pages from the local system. So either it should
show man pages from the remote system or it should reset its
`default-directory' when fetching a local?

I still think using `tramp-cleanup-all-buffers' manually all
the time indicates some other problem ...
