I am running emacs from within a tcsh shell

And



env | grep TMP

TMPDIR=/var/folders/j1/7bbsk0jj6nxd5yxndqwvb1t00000gn/T/

(The same if I call shell)
So I tried either 


(setq server-socket-dir (format "/var/folders/j1/7bbsk0jj6nxd5yxndqwvb1t00000gn/T/"))) 
and then 
(server-start)

Or 
(setq server-socket-dir (format "/tmp/emacs%d" (user-uid))) 
(server-start)


None of it really helped.
