OK, so now it looks like this, i.e. the part that has to do
with the Emacs source.

Does it look good or should you not use pull in the reset
function either? (Maybe one could just remove the whole
directory and start over for the reset.)

emacs-src-get () {
    cd $src_dir
    git clone $emacs_src
}

emacs-src-update () {
    cd $emacs_dir
    git fetch
    git merge
}

emacs-src-reset () {
    cd $emacs_dir
    git reset --hard
    git clean -xdf
    git config pull.rebase false
    git pull $emacs_src
}
