I feel obliged to comment on something. Why are some of the posters in this thread so ready, indeed almost impatient, to pronounce judgement upon others' habits and routines? Are Emacs developers really expected to be so altruistic and self-sacrificing that we must subjugate ourselves to the every whim of nowhere-near-prospective future developers, or rather what is furthermore an intangible group of individuals whose existence and quanity is so far only testified to by anecdotes and inconclusive circumstantial evidence? I've only heard people castigate Eli for his purportedly obstructive, anachronistic, and ``deficient'' practices. Never has it been proposed, as is perhaps only natural, that those who wish to involve themselves in our affairs make some effort to bend themselves into conformity with our established practices and procedures. Would you, as a new employee, demand your workplace realign its customs to match your own habits? Or more germanely for this thread, demand your workplace to realign its customs with your predictions of the habits of future recruits?
