Thanks for the patch and the suggestions. I've installed Gnus from Git, and set the variables as above. I still get the old order for the test thread I'd mentioned in my OP (you can find it by doing GG on this group, and then typing "Trouble binding Alt"). Best regards, Raghavendra. -- N.
