There are no completions shown initially because after adapting icomplete-mode I removed the hook 'post-command-hook' that is the workhorse of icomplete-mode and that is called initially to handle no input, and replaced it with the hook 'after-change-functions' because only changes on the minibuffer should affect the shown completions. So an additional call of zcomplete-exhibit should be added to the end of zcomplete-minibuffer-setup. Maybe these fixes should be applied to a new branch.
