I then truncated the logs, and failed on finding a file that was there. I've redone it with just (setq tramp-verbose 8) (find-file "/insightcruises.com:NOW") and uploaded the resulting file (too large for email) to http://www.stonehenge.com/pic/TRAMP-DEBUG-LOG Sorry for the earlier mis-report. -- Randal L.
