I don't understand how can this work in principle, given the number of
possibilities.  It is not an incident that other applications that
support similar functionality provide only 2 possibilities: either
type the equivalent of C-y and get the format that the application
decided you want, or select from the list of possible formats.

I'm all ears to hear what other UIs could be useful in this case.
