If you didn't know it, "Portable Operating
System Interface", ~1985. The X is for Unix and
the acronym was suggested by Richard Stallman.
The former designation was IEEE-IX so no wonder
they dropped it :)
One has to wonder about the "P" tho as it seems
portability is sort of the reason for any
standard - if it isn't portable, it isn't
a standard but a manual, right?
