I would like to draw a thin vertical line on the window at point.
This is to easily see code alignment. Is this possible? Is there
a better way?

I need some help in understanding overlay properties.

For instance

(overlay-put overlay 'indent-line t)

Can one invent some property. Instead of 'indent-line, can I define
something else (like 'bunga-bunga) to tag the overlays?

(overlay-put overlay 'bunga-bunga t)

I recommend the indent-bars package.
