v21.2.1 (RH8) freezes on scrolling

Dear maintainers of emacs,

When I scroll pagedown-wards and there is only very little left to scroll into (less than a scroll-skip), emacs often freezes. 

This is quite reproducible, but it seems it has something to do with my way of scrolling (perhaps I hammer the keys?). My colleagues do not have this problem, yet it frequently happens when I use their machines.

The 'feature' only occurs using 21.x (ever since 21.0), not with 20.x.

Same thing here, especially if i do "wild scrolling". Tried strace but
only gets strange X11 Errors...
