Subject: bug#12171: 24.1.50; Cocoa filenames being ignored at launch of OSX Emacs
Date: Fri, 10 Aug 2012 07:37:14 -0700 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <86d32yertx.fsf@red.stonehenge.com> (raw)
This bug report will be sent to the Bug-GNU-Emacs mailing list
and the GNU bug tracker at debbugs.gnu.org. Please check that
the From: line contains a valid email address. After a delay of up
to one day, you should receive an acknowledgment at that address.
Please write in English if possible, as the Emacs maintainers
usually do not have translators for other languages.
Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug, and
the precise symptoms of the bug. If you can, give a recipe
starting from `emacs -Q':
On OSX, with emacs not running, enter
open -a emacs $HOME
Emacs will start with only the Scratch buffer showing. If you repeat
this command, emacs *then* visits $HOME, proving that Emacs is ignoring
the passed filename only on launch, but not on later Cocoa opens.
Similarly, dropping a folder or file on the emacs icon is ignored,
*unless* emacs is already running.
From a discussion on the dev list, it may be related to this bugfix:
http://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=12010
Which indeed contains the omnious words:
I fixed this in the trunk, so we ignore Cocoa-passed filenames during
start.
Which is not a fix, it's a break. :(
If Emacs crashed, and you have the Emacs process in the gdb debugger,
please include the output from the following gdb commands:
`bt full' and `xbacktrace'.
For information about debugging Emacs, please read the file
/Users/merlyn/Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/Resources/etc/DEBUG.
