Hello!

Can anybody recommend me a mode or some way to integrate a thumbnail
viewer into emacs' directory-mode? I am using emacs for almost all my
work except of viewing photos (up to now). Any help greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what you mean.

There's thumbs.el.  It is integrated into CVS Emacs:
